Timberland was founded in 1952 in Boston, Massachusetts by Nathan Swartz when he bought half an interest in The Abington Shoe Company. Three years after that he bought the other half and brought his sons into the company.

In 1973 the Timberland boot was created, the first water proof leather boot. It became so popular that the company finally changed their name to The Timberland Company. Today, Timberland is known the world over for its quality clothing and footwear.
