Silhouette was founded in 1964 by Arnold and Anneliese Schmied and, today, is known as Silhouette International Schmied.  Headquartered in Linz, Austria, Silhouette has thirteen distribution subsidiaries and sells its products in over ninety countries.  The company is family owned and managed by Klaus Schmeid, Arnold Schmeid and Tassilo Gruber.  More than 1700 people are employed by Silhouette, 900 of them at the Linz headquarters.
